We've all experienced grief at some point in our lives. It's almost impossible to live life without walking through loss at some point. What we're finding in our work through LITE is that most of those we encounter have experienced grief and it is unresolved. In fact, some didn't even realize grief was at the core of their issues until taking a class with us. I'm guessing there many of you who fit that description as well.
We teach a mindfulness class in the jail and our Free Writers course has inspired dozens of our folks to begin journaling. Better decision making and writing about feelings, actions, reactions, goals, dreams, and frustrations have revealed to many the depth of some loss in their past. So, we decided to try to meet that need and help people learn to resolve it. Our friend, Tom Rose, journaled his way through the loss of his wife and best friend a few years ago. He ultimately turned that into a book, Balloon in a Box - Coping With Grief. It's a wonderful read and acknoweldges that my experience in losing grandparents, parents, and friends does not equate to his losing a spouse or my friend losing his child. And that's ok, it doesn't have to. We're all going to grieve differently and each loss is unique and personal. But some things about grieving are universal.
Here's an article from the Goshen News about Tom and his journey to becoming an author and speaker. https://hot-air-ballooning.org/balloon-in-a-box-coping-with-grief-written-from-the-heart/
I've been working with Tom and his son, Brock, for the last couple months formulating a way to bring his book and his wisdom to our group. I'm excited to announce that on Monday, January 16, 2023 at 6:00 Tom and Brock will be at the Milford Methodist Meeting House to speak. We will begin a six week class on his book and journaling on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 after which Tom and Brock will return to learn about our journey.
Watch our site and social media for details. The program and class will be free of charge but there is a small charge for the book.
